Large guan jar with phoenixes and flowers
Jingdezhen, a town in the southern province of Jiangxi, is one of the world’s earliest industrial towns. No other kiln complex can claim such a long and continuous history lasting some one thousand years. Jingdezhen blue-and-white porcelain is one of the world’s most influential ceramic types, sparking local copies across the globe. This porcelain guan jar has animal masks on the shoulders, pierced to hold metal rings. Around the neck is a band of auspicious emblems with phoenixes and flowers beneath. The main band shows large scrolling flowers, and stylised petals around the foot. The base and foot ring are unglazed.
