Room 95 label text: PDF 693 Kraak bowl with deer This bowl is painted outside with eight panels framing spotted female deer in different attitudes with stylised rocks and leafy plants. Deer are a popular symbol of longevity in China. Kraak-type bowls like this were made for more than three decades in great quantities and were exported throughout the globe to America, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Whole or parts of such bowls have been recovered from several shipwrecks including English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch vessels. Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue decoration Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province Ming dynasty, Wanli period, AD 1573–1620
