Yue ware is not from Yue. It was made by Shengyi of Chuzhou, and is regarded as being of the highest quality. Worthy of being presented to a Hanlin scholar. It brings to mind Scholar Su’s poem, and Master Lu’s joyful appreciation. Its delicate sunflower from symbolises the relationship between the Emperor and his subjects. I must always devote myself to the concerns of my people.

Qing dynasty, about AD 1662–1777PDF 18
