Incense burner with wood stand and cover

Craftsmen decorated this tripod incense burner with purple splashes in a lavender blue glaze. The form is based on metalwork prototypes. Modern studio potters, living almost a thousand years later, such as the British artist Bernard Leach (AD 1887–1979), were inspired by the opalescent Jun stoneware glazes to create their own beautiful versions. The wood stand and cover with jade knob were probably added in the reign of the Qing emperor Yongzheng (AD 1723–35) who was passionate about collecting Jun stonewares.
