  • Curator's comments

There are plates in reverse direction of this subject and another after Westall with the same format and production details as the present plate, 'Girl and Pigs': the other plates are on a slightly smaller scale, engraved by W Nutter and T Gaugain and Ogborne and Gaugain respectively, published by J & J Boydell on 1 May 1802. The two sets of prints share the same format and lettering style and are all Italian copies made at the time, probably by the Remondini in Bassano. A coloured impression of the smaller plate of 'A Boy Angling' is with Donald Heald; for an impression of the smaller 'Girl and Pigs', see 1865,0708.807.
