This portrait series was published in four parts in Augsburg between 1600 and 1604; the engravers were Dominicus Custos and his step-son Lucas Kilian. Hollstein gives the total number of plates as 166, although sets of up to 177 plates are known.
The BM purchased a series in 1873 consisting of 177 plates (with additional title and Imperial arms), for the complete set see 1873,0510.2725 to 2901 (now broken up and distributed among the portraits). The verses to each plate were written by Marcus Hennings (Henningus).
