        Lettered below the image with the title, continuing 'Dean of St. Patrick's Dublin', with arms and the motto 'Cum Magnis Vixisse', a quotation from Horace 'Illum aget permâ metuente solvi Fama superstes. Hor.', and "Frans. Bindon Pinxit [added in pencil '1739'] / Andrew Miller Fecit"; annotated in brown ink on the recto 'I should suppose very like that great Man'.

    Taken from the same picture as Chaloner Smith no. 53.
    Chaloner Smith adds that although this portrait from which this was taken was painted years before Swift's death, there are traces in his face of the disease which killed him.
