Bando Tamasaburo 坂東玉三郎
- Bando Tamasaburo 坂東玉三郎
Photobook. One volume. First edition.
- Made in: Tokyo
This is the second work by Shinoyama about Tamasaburo and a landmark in colour production. The images radiate with the refined elegance of Japanese femininity - in spite of the male sex of the performer. Bando Tamasaburo's art is in the realm of the divine: To have seen him is to grasp the beauty of sadness. He has captured the essence of femininity. Not only can he move beyond gender he can also move beyond age. This book proves it and it is most sumptuous in layout and design. The poster (measuring ca. 83,5x59cm) shows Tamasaburo reclining in a gondola in Venice. Book-design by Tanaka Ikko. Only 4 copies in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/07)
