Suishu 翠愁 (A Feeling of Luscious Green)
- Suishu 翠愁 (A Feeling of Luscious Green)
Photobook. One volume. First edition. Presentation copy.
- Made in: Tokyo-to
The present book was published to coincide with the author's 88th birthday, traditionally regarded as an auspicious event. Sakurai was a quintessential amateur photographer and one of the few from the first generation of enthusiasts who continued to produce 'geijutsu shashin' in the style of the 1920s and 30s for the rest of his life. In 1972 he founded a quarterly photographic magazine entitled 'Kodai' which continued to publish images from the Kiribatake Group. In 1981 Sakurai's work was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago. The term 'sui' in the title is full of subtle poetic connotations that are entire consistent with the gentle feel of his images. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/07)
