Photobook. One volume. First edition.

After 'Kitarubeki' Nakahira did not produce a photo-book for over ten years. On September 10th 1977 he drunk himself into a stupor and collapsed. He was taken to hospital and when he woke up he had lost his memory. He literally could not remember anything and had to re-learn his life (including photography) from friends and relatives. 'Staring anew' is the product of many years of recovery and re-discovery. It is a refreshingly quiet, even humble work. The subjects appear to be everyday scenes, the colours are surprisingly benign. It all seems a long way from the programmatic radicalism of previous times. And yet one is not left with the impression that the man is a spent force. Underneath there is still a fire burning, a passion for photography, a will to express something.. Only two copies in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/07)
