Echigo Tsumari is a triennial cultural event held in a remote mountainous part of central Japan since 2000. The present book documents a superb artistic collaboration between Moriyama Daido and Christiaan Bastiaans, a Dutch artist, performing a play based on Shakespeare's 'King Lear' with local villagers in Tsumari. It is a moving document of the human ability to endure hardship and distinguish themselves from animals. (Titus Boeder, 4/07)
