Shokuji is another book dedicated to the memory of his wife Yoko. The book comes in three sections, the first being in colour, the last in black and white, and the middle section of text provides information of the food they consumed between January and November 1985. The colour section shows his training in the advertising industry, they have a lush vibrant quality that is often at odds with the presentation of the food on the plate. One can also perceive a certain dark sexuality in these images of leftovers. This is another extension of the I-novel, the exposure of banal, and yet extremely private moments that he shared with his wife. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/07)
