Stabilize, repair and consolidate lead top. Refix to bottle with adhesive
Lead top heavily corroded and corrosion still active. Large loss of material and the risk of rest crumbling away when handled.
Consolidative Reduction carried out over 4 hrs. Electrolyte = 5% Sodium Carbonate, stainless steel anodes, Current at 5v was initially 10mA lowered to 5mA over 2 hrs. Object neutralised in dilute H2SO4, washed in tap water and dried with acetone. Lead top consolidated with 3% Paraloid B72 ( ethyl methacrylate copolymer ) in acetone, applied by pipette.
