- Curator's comments
- The inscription is of Jacobite significance, but the date of the engraving has been much discussed. The image is after a mezzotint print, titled 'Ab Obice Major', after Philippe Mercier, an example is in the P&D 1902,1011.7035, and the Royal Collection RCIN 603608.
