    Portrait of Shah ʿAbbas I of Persia; single-page painting mounted on a detached album folio. Shah stands with hands on hips, wearing an orange tunic and green turban. He carries a sword in a blue sheath. Dark green ground. Framed by plain border; margin decorated with alternating red poppy and pink tulip motif; entire folio bordered by a thin, green, adhesive strip. Folio belongs to a series of single-page paintings and drawings of Indian rulers, all of which were once attached to the leaves of the album 1920,0917,0.13, also housed in the British Museum collection.
    Opaque watercolour and gold on paper.
