Porcelain meiping vase with underglaze blue decoration. Similar in style to BM 1937.0716.79, this meiping has a narrow inward-tapering neck with thickened rim, sloping shoulders and narrowing sides which spread out slightly above the foot. It has an unglazed base, recessed within an outer broad foot ring. Two, as yet unidentified, scholarly immortals are depicted in conversation in an outdoor setting at night with their long robes billowing in the breeze. They are accompanied by a servant carrying a book. Their immortal realm is indicated by a background of undulating clouds, which are outlined in thick blue lines and then given depth with squiggly shading, typical of porcelains made in the Tianshun era. Following convention, the end of the scene is indicated by further scrolling clouds. Below is a border of waves and above a border of waves with two flying horses, one facing forwards, the other facing backwards and with a honeycomb diaper pattern around its neck.

A blue-and-white stem cup with a similar wave design was excavated in the Zhengtong to Tianshun remains at Dongsiling, Jingdezhen. Another high-quality meiping painted in a similar style, also with flying horses around the shoulder and with the figure of a scholar and his servant, from the Hoyt Collection, is in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. A further identical example is illustrated by Geng Baocheng. Earlier meiping of the Interregnum period have plumper less elongated forms (see BM 1973.0726.359).
