- Curator's comments
- 2016 National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage catalogue entries:
'This folding fan has thirteen ribs and two guards. The ribs are made with bamboo strips with hapjuk (合竹) decoration. Two or three pieces of ox-horn sheets, decorated with painted flowers on the verso are attached to the each guard. Also attached the bottom of each guard is a piece of black persimmon tree. The flower patterned silk gauze covering the fan’s face is painted with chrysanthemums and a butterfly. Two green silk strips are inserted between each guard for easy grip. Ornamental fans decorated with ox-horn sheets were generally used by female entertainers and shamans.'
