    Zwalf 1985

This head must have come from one of just over 500 Buddhas occupying niches and trellised ‘stūpas’ on the Borobudur monument. Its style, already Indonesian, is at the same time still post-Gupta and eastern Indian with reminiscences of Bihar and Orissa in its globular head and full rounded features.
