This slab was one of six separate pieces making up a rectangular box which contained four caskets, three now in the British Museum and one in the Victoria and Albert Museum, all inscribed with the names of saints, some also known in Buddhist literature and probably previously deposited elsewhere. The inscription says that the box contained relics 'of all the teachers, including Kasapagota [Kāśyapagotra ] and Vāchi [Vātsi] Suvijayata', both mentioned again on separate caskets inside.
