Clean to improve appearance.
Dust & dirt in recesses. Dulling of gilded surface and heavily darkened copper where exposed. Small areas of copper corrosion products on the surface.
Initial clean using acetone on swabs. 15% formic acid was then applied by swab to remove copper corrosion products. Diethylenetriaminepenta acetic acid pentasodium salt, TritonX100, in distilled water. applied by swab, rinsed off with distilled water. Finally the surface was given a light polish with a Goddard's Silver polishing cloth.
