Curator's comments
See Louvre 2004 Primatice exhibition, cat.53. The composition relates to a fresco by Primaticcio in the vault of the vestibule of the Porte Dorée, and the print is taken from a drawing now in the Louvre (ibid, cat.52). The wounded figure has traditionally, and wrongly, been called Paris. For a state without the lettering but with monogrammist indicated see 1873.0809.789.
