Lift. Remove debris and adhesive. Support if necessary. Inlay. Mount Roy.
Guarded and edged to old thin solid mount with S.5529. Slight cockling and creases. Small edge tears. Touches of abrasion, most noticeable one in centre of sky. Verso is coloured with an ochre wash. Brown (pigment?) stains in lower half. Old cream paper debris at right edge and top left corner from previous attachments.
Lifted by undercutting and slitting guards with a scalpel. Guard debris removed using a poultice of Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether). Adhesive residue removed with cotton wool swabs dampened with warm water. Old paper debris kept in place. Small edge tears supported with Japanese tissue toned with Winsor and Newton artist's watercolours (organic,inorganic pigments,gum arabic) and wheat starch adhesive. Humidified over capillary matting and Gore-Tex in a chamber. Pressed between felts under glass. Inlaid to BM inlay paper with strips of Japanese tissue and Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether) adhesive. Pressed.Object mounted into a Royal overthrow of 6ply Heritage 100% Cotton Museum Board with a backboard of 4ply Heritage 100% Cotton Museum Board and hinged in using archival framing tape adhered with water.
