Remove old lacquer. Clean to remove tarnish and improve legibility
Lacquered, tarnished, dirty. Traces of rouge and black-grey dirt in the cross-hatching.
Dirt in the cross-hatching softened with Industrial methylated spirits (IMS - ethanol, methanol) applied with a cotton wool swab. Softened end of a toothpick also used to loosen dirt, together with further cotton wool IMS swabs. Cotton wool swabs of sodium bicarbonate in distilled water paste then applied to remove tarnish. Rinsed off with distilled water applied using cotton wool swabs, then acetone on cotton wool swabs.
