The war elephant; the animal stands in the centre, turned to the left, carrying a howdah surmounted by a Turkish flag and with warriors; the entire entourage is populated by soldiers and different kind of animals, engaged in a fierce battle; in the background left and right two strongholds

- Although no original with a similar design by Bosch has survived, it is reasonable to assume that either a painting or drawing by him served as a prototype for the present engraving; see M. Friedländer, 'Altniederländische Malerei V: Geertgen van Haarlem und Hieronymus Bosch', Berlin, 1927, p.129b.
