- Description

Copper alloy hinged collar. This copper alloy collar is hinged at the back and expands towards two terminals, linked at the front by a 'joggle-joint', i.e. a hooked tongue fastened into a slot in the opposite terminal. Decorated in La Tène style, repeated as almost exact mirror-images on each arm. The basic pattern was cast in the mould, then a stipple outline was engraved around the design and in parts of the background. Twenty-six shallow holes were drilled into the metal, to hold circular inlays which no longer survive. There are a further eight triangular settings for red glass 'enamel', of which some survive.
