  • Curator's comments

This engraving is a late work of the Florentine woodcutter and engraver Lucantonio degli Uberti. Another impression of the print is in Paris. For a discussion of Lucantonio's oeuvre see Hind D.III.4 (P&D 1846,0509.12). The fluttering drapery around the waist of the figure is reminiscent of Filippino Lippi, while the treatment of the ground in curving, parallel strokes and flicks evokes Dürer or Marcantonio Raimondi.
Dr Kristina Herrmann-Fiore of the Borghese Gallery dates this print around 1500, nearer to the production of Uberti's engraving after Perugino's Last Supper (PPA42585). See exhibition catalogue, 'Dürer and Italy', Rome, Scuderie del Quirinale, 2007.
