Dusty, dirty. Excess old adhesive (animal glue).
Surface dust removed by gentle brushing with a soft sable brush. Cleaned with cotton wool swabs slightly dampened in distilled water containing 1% Synperonic N, non-ionic detergent. Old adhesive softened with distilled water applied on cotton wool swabs and fine sable brush, and carefully picked off with a scalpel.
