Rectangular limestone stela of Maria; design includes bird, cross and foliate border.
Description from Hall:
Two panels: in the centre of the lower panel is a dove with outstretched wings: a medallion is hung about its neck. Below it is a triple guilloche scroll, in each of the six circles of which is a foliated cross, and in the inner spandrels small discs, each with a plain diagonal cross incised upon it. Above it is the inscription … . The whole panel is enclosed within a rectangular border of leaves on a central stalk. Above this is a square panel containing a cross pattee within a wreath: in the spandrels are foliated ornaments. Both panels are contained within a border of vine scrolls.

Remove red line of gallery paint from edges. Light clean.
The object is stable but slightly dirty. There is red gallery paint on the sides.
Cleaned with Wishab sponge (vulcanized latex,filler). Removed gallery paint with Nitromors water soluble (methylene chloride,sodium hydroxide,cellulose) and Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone).
Comes in the register with the general comment for this page 'Purch. by Budge'
