Curator's comments
This magnificent medallion of eight aurei stands in sharp contrast to the artistic quality of most of the base metal coinage of Claudius II. With its theme of harmony between the emperor and the soldiers who had helped him to power, it was probably issued as part of donatives for his accession at Milan.
