Young Graduates for Museums and Galleries
Internships for 16-19 year olds in world-famous
organisations
The Young Graduates for
Museums and Galleries programme offers high-achieving 16-19
year olds the opportunity to experience what happens behind the
scenes in national institutions.
The programme provides personal and career development
opportunities and aims to highlight the careers on offer in the
sector.
Students attend a series of intensive seminars, workshops and
open days and then complete a two week internship in a world
renowned partner museum.
Participating museums and galleries find immense value in their
engagement with Young Graduate students, sharing skills
and experience in both directions. The partner museums and
galleries continue to benefit from having access to gifted and
talented young people who are potential professionals for the
sector’s future.
'My internship at the V&A last year was so valuable and
enjoyable- and the whole programme has inspired me to pursue a
career in museums.'
Hayley, YGMG 2007
'The programme has made a real impact on the National
Portrait Gallery. We now employ two YGMG graduates as Visitor
Services Assistants and two graduates are also active members of
the Youth Forum, as part of the Gallery's Young People's
Programme'.
Rachel Moss, National Portrait Gallery Young Peoples
Programmes Manager
