What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

For KS2–4 students

Students use a mixture of handling objects, multi-sensory activities and digital technologies to gain an introduction to key aspects of ancient Greece. They visit the Greek galleries, which are fully accessible, and then recreate sculptural poses in front of a green screen.

Session lasts 10.30–14.00 and includes a lunch break 11.30–12.00.
