What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

For Key Stage 3 students.

A teacher-led session in which students use packs of materials supplied by the Museum.

During the Maths Challenge groups of students rotate through nine activities in different galleries, including the recently opened Citi Money Gallery. The challenges are designed to focus on developing students’ mathematical thinking by using key processes and applying a variety of mathematical concepts to unfamiliar challenges.

A minimum of 6 weeks notice is essential when booking.
