Ring with the Lord’s prayer

From: England
Date: AD 1676

Amazingly, this small ring has the entire Lord’s prayer written on it in tiny writing. William Mason, the craftsman who made it, wrote the whole prayer out onto a small circular piece of paper less than a centimetre across, signed and dated his work, then fitted it into the ring. He placed a sliver of rock crystal over the top to protect it. The writing is so small that you need a magnifying glass to read it.

The ring is made from pale blue enamel and gold and is very beautiful. The wearer of the ring may also have believed in the power of the prayer to protect them from harm.
