The Miao people used to decorate their clothes with wonderful embroidery and silver jewellery, and today they use plastic beads and other man-made materials as well. The style and amount of decoration tells people where the wearer comes from and how wealthy he or she is.

Today, Miao women often prefer to wear trousers and trainers rather than the tightly pleated skirts, but they still dress in their traditional clothes for special occasions.
