A running hound
Made in: Corinth, Greeece
Date: about 670-650 BC
The dog bounding across this vase looks as though it is in the middle of a jump, with its hind legs in the air. He has been painted to look strong and fast, with a long curved back and powerful legs.
The ancient Greeks used dogs for hunting, as watchdogs and to guard livestock such as sheep and cattle. Some people kept dogs as pets.
