The door of this house is decorated like a temple door, painted with red and black bands. The piece of coloured plaster underneath comes from a real Egyptian house and shows the same kind of decoration.
There is a courtyard on the house roof, where the family would have done their chores. A canopy stretched over the top would have shaded them from the sun. Other kinds of Egyptian house are shown underneath: a simple house with a courtyard, and a wealthier person's townhouse from later times. Both have roof terraces.
