Clarence’s truck
From: Twin Lakes, New Mexico, USA
Date: AD 1997
This ring was made by the artist Clarence Lee, a Navajo Indian who makes jewellery showing scenes from his life on the Navajo reservation. When Clarence was a child, people started using trucks instead of horses as transport. This made travel around the big reservation much easier. The ring shows a truck which has fetched some water in big drums. Can you see one dog riding in the truck and another running alongside it?
The ring is made of silver and semi-precious stones including turquoise. Turquoise is important to the Navajo and often used in their jewellery.
