Death in the Americas

The Atomic Apocalypse

The Atomic Apocalypse

From: Mexico City
Date: AD 1983

In early November Mexico celebrates the festivals of All Saints and All Souls. At this time the dead are said to visit the living. People use model skeletons to remind them of the dead.

The Linares family specialise in making big model skeletons out of papier mâché. They made this group of 132 skeletons called The Atomic Apocalypse to show some recent wars in the world and the evil and suffering they have caused. You can see the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, whom the Bible says will appear at the end of the world. These are War, Famine, Pestilence (plague) and Death.
