Two swords and sheaths
From: the western Sahara (Eastern Senegal, Guinea,
Mali)
Date: mid-20th century
These beautiful swords belonged to important Manding men. They were first designed to be used from horseback. They have curved steel blades, sharp on one side and set in a handle with no finger guard.
The scabbards, with their big tassels and huge round leather buttons, are all made of leather.
