Aztec serpent mosaic

Get the materials ready
Print and cut out the mosaic and start sticking the coloured squares on it
Keep adding coloured paper to the template until it's all covered

You will need:

Aztec serpent mosaic template, printed out onto stiff card
Coloured paper (turquoise, white, black and red or any colours you like) cut up into tiny pieces
Glue

This turquoise serpent would have been worn as a chest ornament at Aztec festivals.

Here's how to make your own mosaic. You can use the template provided or design your own!

How to make

1. Print out or draw your chosen template.

2. Cut the coloured paper into tiny pieces - you could use white for the teeth, red for the mouth and nose, black for the eyes and turquoise for the body.

3. Glue the pieces of paper to the template. You can copy the real thing from the picture here, or get creative and make your own pattern.

4. You can cut out your finished mosaic, poke holes in the top and wear it over your chest, or display it as a piece of art!
