Containers

Food

This tray would have been placed on the table for people to serve themselves various condiments from. Condiments are sauces, spices and other delicacies which are served as extras to a meal. What condiments do you use regularly at mealtimes? The container has nine sections to hold different foods and the shapes of these show what went in them. Can you work out where an orange might have been placed, and some almonds?

Have a look at some other objects from different times and cultures (below left) which have been used to hold food.
