Akua'ba doll
From: Ghana
Date: early 20th century AD
Some young Asante girls play with these akua'ba dolls.
Sometimes they are given a doll by their father, to bring good luck
that will help them have many children when they grow up. The
Asante think it is good to have a big family.
If a woman can't get pregnant, she might go to
a herbalist or priest who will give her an akua'ba doll.
The woman will tie the doll on her back with a cloth, just as she
would a real child, and wear it like this until she becomes
pregnant.
