Samir al-Sayegh has been working and experimenting with Arabic calligraphy for many years. His interest in its traditional form, as well as in contemporary art and design, has led him to create new calligraphic typefaces. This black-and-white composition is based on the word 'Allah' (God), which al-Sayegh has then turned into geometric shapes. In the central section, the two sides of the rectangles are the letter alef ('a') while inside are the two lams ('l') and ha ('h') making up the rest of the word.
Al-Sayegh was educated in Lebanon and later studied history of art in Paris. As well as working as an artist he writes poetry and has produced numerous articles and essays on art and aesthetics. He lives and works in Lebanon.
