Takehisa Yumeji, 'Princess Tatsuta' (Tatsuta-hime), a colour woodblock print

From 'A Collection of Takehisa Yumeji's Pictures in Woodblock Print' (Takehisa Yumeji moku-hangu-shū)

Tatsuta-hime, the Shintō goddess of autumn and the harvest, is shown here as an elegant modern beauty in a high-waisted kimono with long swinging sleeves. She poses before a distant, barren Mt Fuji.

The artist is quoted as saying about Princess Tatsuta: 'She's the crowning woman of my life. She's Miss Nippon!'
