Belt buckle

Roman Britain, late 4th or early 5th century AD
From the Roman fort at Catterick, North Yorkshire

This large bronze buckle was probably from the belt of an officer or official of the Roman army. The stylized animals are sea creatures: a pair of sea-horses flanked by dolphins.
