    Bronze bowl

    Roman Britain, 1st century AD
    From Luton, near Chatham, Kent

This fine bronze dish was found with other Roman material in 1869. The name of the bronzesmith who made the dish is stamped in a small, curved stamp close to the centre. His name was Africanus but this does not necessarily imply that he was an African.
