This powerful scene evokes the traditional heavy industry of Clydeside, shipbuilding and steel-making. Introduced in the 1940s, the design refers back to the bank's origins in the west of Scotland. In the 1840s the Glasgow Union Bank joined with several other banks across Scotland to form a national company.
