£5 note of the Scarborough Bank, York City and County Banking Company

England, AD 1860s-70s

This note is dominated by an imposing view of York Minster engraved by the Edinburgh firm of W.H. Lizars. The Minster appeared on most branch notes of the York City and County Banking Company, each with other vignettes for different towns. On the left of this note, Britannia and her lion are shown in front of a view of the seaside resort of Scarborough.
