Commercial Bank of Scotland, design for £20 note
In the nineteenth century, Scottish notes were more likely than English to carry images of reigning monarchs. This design for the Commercial Bank of Scotland features elegant portraits of the young Queen Victoria (reigned 1837-1901) and her consort, Prince Albert. The rich allegorical scene at the top is from the pediment of the Bank's head office in Edinburgh, shown at the bottom of the note.
