Teabowl, by Raku Ichinyū

From Japan, Edo period, 17th century AD

Ichinyū was the fourth generation of the Raku line of potters. He died in 1696, aged 59. He took the name Ichinyū when he became a lay Buddhist in 1691 and went to live at the Baiko temple at Yamada near Kyoto.

He typically uses a black glaze with an underlying slight reddish tinge. His teabowls characteristically have a small foot compared with this of the other Raku masters.
